"City government can't do everything. But if we work together, Holly Springs can attract and retain the citizens and businesses that will develop additional assets for our city."
Tim's Vision for Holly Springs
We accomplished a lot during my terms as an alderman, but there is still much more to do.
Here are a few examples of how we can continue to make Holly Springs a better place to live, work, play, and raise a family:
-
Holly Springs is a college town and Rust College is an important part of our community. We need to continue to make improvements to our city, especially the area around Rust, so prospective students and their parents will feel comfortable in choosing Rust College and Holly Springs as the place to further their education. We need the look and feel of a college town.
-
Holly Springs should be a safe community. My goal is to have a fully staffed, competitively paid Police Department that is allowed to do their job.
-
We need to restart our street improvement plan and pave a few roads every year. This should include new striping and possibly bike lanes where suitable.
-
We should continue to follow the master plan for revitalizing Spring Hollow Park and the area between Rust College and the Square. This should include period decorative lamp posts and landscaping. We need to finish rehabilitating the Old Water and Light Plant Building and turn it into our center for Main Street and Tourism.
-
I would like to see us continue to improve our parks and ball fields. We should explore the possibility of teaming up with Holly Springs High School to build a first class baseball field that can be shared by the high school, and recreation department. We could build additional basketball courts that could be used by citizens, but also could be used to host regional Three On Three Basketball Tournaments. We should continue to encourage the Holly Springs School District to build a new High School Track at Sam Coopwood Park. We should also work to improve the turf on the football field.
-
We need to continue to develop the Springs Industrial Park and have plans to provide the necessary utilities that might be required to attract businesses and industries. That should include high speed fiber optic internet service as well as gas, water, electricity, and sewer. We have a perfect location with available land, a railroad, an interstate highway, and an airport.
-
I would like to see a Senior Citizen Center and a Boys and Girls Club in Holly Springs. I am also open to the possibility of building a Municipal Swimming Pool.
-
I am still in favor of the city building a Dog Park and working with the county and non-profits to build an Animal Shelter.
-
We should add the planned lighting to the new Salem Avenue bridge that is a gateway into our historic district. The area between this bridge and the Holly Springs Depot/Phillip's Grocery area should be redeveloped into a mixed use area, possibly with an outdoor event space to get events off of the football field.
-
Our master plan for Hillcrest Cemetery should be implemented with future roads and plots developed. Space for a columbarium should be set aside since cremations are becoming a more popular option. We should capitalize on the tourism possibilities of the cemetery.
-
We need to continue to improve our human resource policies and pay structures for our employees.
-
We should continue to add additional fire and police equipment. The fire training area off of Valley Street or another site could become a first class Regional Fire Training Center.
-
We need to continue to help our citizens prepare themselves for jobs that are coming to the Holly Springs/Marshall County area.
-
Improvements should be made to our storm drainage system including our creeks and drainage ditches.
-
I am a big believer in recycling. I think Holly Springs should open a voluntary recycling center for citizens to drop their household recyclable items.
