Plan for the Holly Springs Utility Department

The City of Holly Springs has been in the utility business for about 100 years.  The Holly Springs Utility Department is one of the biggest assets that the city has.  Recent events and actions by the current administration has caused or exposed problems with the department.  Every business can have problems and the HSUD is no different than other businesses.  The current administrations inability to respond appropriately to issues with the department for the past 3-4 years has jeopardized the business.   The electric division is on the verge of being split up or taken away by the Public Service Commission.

My plan if elected:

  • I will have a positive, productive working relationship with the Board of Aldermen.  Without this it will be difficult to get anything done.

  • I will work with TVA and the Public Service Commission to explore all possible solutions that will be beneficial to Holly Springs and the utility customers.

  • We will build positive working relationships with other utility companies, utility contractors, TVPPA,  TVA, the Public Service Commission, as well as our county, state, and federal elected representatives.

  • The City Board and I will work to have qualified, professional, courteous staff members at all levels of the company.

  • We will hire a qualified, experienced electric division supervisor/engineer to lead the electric division when Mr. Humphreys retires.

  • We will work to retain and recruit qualified electric lineman with a competitive pay schedule.

  • I will insist on a culture of professionalism and great customer service at all levels.

  • If not established by the next term, we will upgrade the metering system.  We will have a timely and accurate billing system.  We will set up an efficient communication system with our customers using text messages, social media, and web sites.  We will have courteous and knowledgeable customer service representatives.

  • I will ask the Board of Aldermen to establish a subcommittee that will meet more often to cover nothing but the utility company.

  • We will finish the cast iron gas line replacement project.

  • We will work to improve our water system.  (Wells, back up generators, mapping.)

  • We will develop a sewage lift station maintenance and replacement program.

  • We will repair or replace city street lights in all areas we serve.  We will repair the lights at the highway intersection in south Holly Springs.

  • If by chance, regulators take actions against HSUD that changes the current make up of the company, I will still work for what's best for the City of Holly Springs and its residents.
